Do You Need a Certification to Do the Right Thing?

There’s a lot of conversation right now around certifications. B Corp. Climate neutral. Organic. Sustainable. And don’t get us wrong — we think it’s a good thing. Standards matter. Accountability matters. Transparency matters.

But here’s the question we keep coming back to: do you need a certification to actually do good? Or… should doing good just be the baseline?

The Reality Behind “Doing Better”

If you’ve ever tried to shop more sustainably, you’ll know it’s not always easy. Labels can be confusing, claims can feel vague, and sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s real and what’s just… marketing. We get it.

Because when we created Fri Period, we weren’t trying to tick boxes. We were trying to solve a real problem:

👉 Period products that didn’t compromise your body
👉 Products that didn’t create unnecessary waste
👉 And a brand that actually meant what it said

Everything we’ve built comes back to that.

What “Doing Good” Looks Like for Us

We’re not perfect. No brand is. But we believe in being honest about what we’re doing — and why.

🌱 Sustainable, Reusable Products

Our period underwear is designed to replace disposable products. That means fewer pads and tampons ending up in landfill, and a longer-lasting option you can rely on every cycle.

But sustainability isn’t just about reusability — it’s also about what touches your body. We use thoughtfully chosen materials (like organic cotton and bamboo) and avoid harmful chemicals, because what goes on your body matters just as much as what goes in it. The factory we trust to make our products as OEKOTEX Standard 100 certified - an internationally recognised standard that ensures products are safe for human health, checking every thread, button, and accessory against a list of over 1,000 harmful chemicals and substances.

📦 Packaging That Doesn’t Stick Around Forever

Let’s talk about packaging — the part most brands don’t focus on. Ours is made from biodegradable and compostable materials derived from cornstarch. So instead of sitting in landfill for decades (or centuries), it can break down naturally. It’s a small shift, but small shifts add up.

🌳 One Order = One Tree

Every time you shop with us, something else happens behind the scenes: we plant a tree. Through our partnership with Good API, one tree is donated for every purchase.

It’s our way of giving back — not as a marketing add-on, but as part of how we operate. Because impact shouldn’t be occasional. It should be built in.

So… Why Not Just Get Certified?

It’s a fair question. And honestly? Certifications can be valuable. They create standards, push industries forward, and help consumers make informed choices. We respect that.

But achieving certification can also be extremely expensive, and as a young brand we don't have tens of thousands to splash out on whim.

We also believe something equally important: doing the right thing shouldn’t only happen when there’s a badge involved.

It should happen in the everyday decisions:

  • The materials you choose

  • The partners you work with

  • The transparency you offer

  • The impact you create

No Greenwashing. No Overpromising.

You won’t hear us say we’re “saving the planet,” because that’s not realistic. What we will say is this: we’re committed to making better choices — consistently.

We focus on progress over perfection. We choose transparency over perfection. And we build products that are better for your body and the planet.

What This Means for You

When you choose Fri Period, you’re not just buying period underwear. You’re choosing:

  • Reusable products over single-use waste

  • Thoughtfully sourced materials over toxic shortcuts

  • Packaging that won’t outlive you

  • A brand that’s actively giving back

And most importantly? You’re choosing to feel comfortable, confident, and free — exactly how it should be.

The Bottom Line

Certifications are great, but they’re not the whole story. What matters most is what a brand does — every single day — when no one’s checking. And that’s where we choose to focus.
