The Fridom Movement
Globally, 1.8 billion of us menstruate each month. None of us would exist without the menstrual cycle.
If anything, it should be a source of celebration and pride. Instead, it's a topic that is still shrouded in whispers and embarrassment. There is still a long way to go in eradicating the taboo around menstrual cycles and removing barriers that hold us back.
At Fri Period, we're on a mission: to make periods better for everyone.
We call this The Fridom Movement. We want to improve the period experience for YOU, for the planet, and for the 500 million people worldwide that suffer from period poverty.
It's a long journey ahead of us and one we know we won't accomplish overnight. But here's how we plan to achieve our mission:
1. OFFERING INNOVATIVE, COMFORTABLE PERIOD PRODUCTS
We have a growing range of sustainable period underwear made out of supremely comfortable US-grown organic cotton. Simply wear, wash and repeat, Fri Period underwear are (in our opinion) the easiest and most comfortable way to manage your period.
As well as being a comfortable and convenient alternative (or complement) to single-use products, we love how our printed interior gusset injects a bit of joy into the mundane and helps you bid adieu to stain shame.
2. BETTER FOR THE PLANET (AND ITS PEOPLE)
Did you know that nearly 20 billion single-use period products end up on landfill every year in the US alone? And that they take up to 850 years to decompose? Big yikes!
We love our planet, and Fri Period underwear helps to minimize the negative impact of our periods on the environment. Whether you use them to completely replace your use of tampons or pads (we recommend it!), or if you use them to help reduce the amount of tampons/pads you use, every step makes a difference.
Our product is made locally (at a FABULOUS female-owned factory in Houston, TX) using US-grown organic cotton, which helps to minimize our carbon footprint.
We are proud of our transparent supply chain. Because we work with a local factory, we're able to personally visit the site regularly (it's basically our second home!). We guarantee that your Fri Period products are made under excellent working conditions where everyone receives a fair wage and is well looked after.
When you choose Fri Period, you're supporting ethical manufacturing practices and contributing to the well-being of workers in our supply chain. Nice one!
4. ADDRESSING PERIOD POVERTY
Not everyone has the means to access sustainable period products.
Period poverty affects an estimated 500 million people worldwide, and we want to impact meaningful change.
We can't reveal too much just yet, but are thrilled to share that we are working on an endeavor to form strategic partnerships that will help provide period underwear to those who otherwise can't afford them.
Stay tuned for more updates on our charity initiatives (and how you can get involved), as we continue to work towards our mission of addressing period poverty.
5. KNOWLEDGE IS POWER
Despite the fact that so many of us have a period (1.8 billion!), and that none of us would exist without it, the menstrual cycle is still shrouded in taboo and embarrassment. Conversations are held sparingly, and usually in whispers.
At Fri Period, we want to empower everyone to have a better relationship with themselves and their cycles, through fostering open and inclusive dialogue. We aim to create a platform where women can openly discuss their menstrual experiences, ask questions, and access reliable information to better connect with their bodies.
We want to break the stigma surrounding our bodies, and empower everyone to have a better period.
Fri Period is a choice you can feel truly good about (as well as feeling excellent in)!
