A note from our founder
As we pass our first birthday, we're relfecting on the past 12 months. And boy, what a journey it’s been. We’ve learnt A LOT.
Here is just a snippet.
1. There's still a lot of work to do on eradicating taboo around our menstrual cycles
When I started Fri Period, I knew the stigma surrounding menstruation was real, but I didn’t realize just how deeply it was ingrained. Throughout this year, we’ve had incredible conversations with so many amazing women, and one thing has become crystal clear: we have a lot of work to do to eradicate the shame and secrecy that still surrounds our periods. These conversations are vital (and in some instances, even life-saving), and they remind me every day why this work is so important. We will never stop talking about periods!
We need to talk about our periods. A lot.
2. With Taboo Comes Misinformation
The taboo doesn’t just create silence; it breeds misinformation. There are still so many inaccuracies and outdated beliefs doing the rounds.
We have a lot of unlearning to do about what’s normal, what’s not, and what we should and shouldn’t tolerate when it comes to our cycles.
Our key takeaway? Don’t suffer in silence.
3. Our community is incredible
One of the most rewarding aspects of this journey has been YOU - we just love the community we've built. The support, the shared experiences, and the open, honest conversations are just about the best thing about running this company. ♥️
4. Ginger Is a Menstrual Cycle Supplement Powerhouse
I’ve always known ginger had health benefits, but I never realized just how powerful it could be for my menstrual cycle until I dove a little deeper.
Several scientific studies have found ginger to be as effective as over-the-counter pain meds at relieving menstrual cramps. What’s more, this anti-inflammatory rooty powerhouse can also combat nausea and even help regulate your cycle.
Ginger deserves the hype! Have you tried it yet?
5. You Are What You Eat—And This Applies to Your Menstrual Cycle
The saying “you are what you eat” couldn’t be more accurate when it comes to your menstrual cycle. What we eat can have a profound impact on our periods—everything from the severity of cramps to the regularity of our cycles can be influenced by our diet. Since starting Fri Period, I’ve learned just how crucial nutrition is for menstrual health, and it’s something I’m passionate about sharing with our community. We’re so fortunate to be able to collaborate regularly with the fabulous Renata Trebing, intuitive nutrition coach and hormone hero, who has made a massive impact on the wellbeing of so many women. Check her out here.
6. Stress Impacts Your Cycle More Than You Know
If there’s one thing I’ve learned about menstrual cycles, it’s that they are incredibly sensitive to stress. Stress can throw your entire cycle out of whack, leading to irregular periods, more intense PMS symptoms, and even missed periods. Understanding this has been a game-changer for me, and it’s a reminder to prioritize self-care and stress management, especially during menstruation. If you missed our article about it, check it out here.
7. The Power of Listening to Our Bodies
Did you know the menstrual cycle is widely considered as the fifth vital sign? Our bodies have a way of communicating with us, especially during our menstrual cycles. By paying attention to the signals our bodies send, we can better understand our cycles and respond to our needs—whether it’s adjusting our diet, managing stress, or simply resting when our bodies call for it.
8. Sustainability Matters More Than Ever
Every decision we make at Fri Period, from the materials we use to our manufacturing processes, is guided by a commitment to sustainability. With nearly 20 billion products ending up on landfill each year in the US alone, it’s been heartening to see so many people embrace a more planet-friendly way of managing their periods. These little steps make a huge difference!
9. Education Is Empowerment
Knowledge is power, and that’s especially true when it comes to menstrual health. Over the course of this year, I’ve seen firsthand how educating ourselves about our cycles can lead to better health outcomes and a stronger connection with our bodies.
And that’s just the beginning!
Thank you so much for being part of this community and here’s to many more periods made easier, comfier and more planet-friendly!
